Your Curriculum progress is calculated using a weighted system that considers both Course completion and Credit requirements across all Curriculum Groups in your program. This article explains how this calculation works.
Please advise that if your Curriculum has no specific requirements defined, your progress will automatically show as 100% complete.
Understanding the Calculation
The system calculates your overall progress by examining each Curriculum Group's requirements and your completion status. Here's how it works:
-
Determining Requirements: For each Curriculum group, the system identifies the requirement type:
- Course-based requirements: "You must complete 3 Courses from this Group".
- Credit-based requirements: "You must achieve 100 Credits from this Group".
- Calculating Total Requirements: The system adds up all requirements across your Curriculum Groups to determine the total scope of your program. This creates the baseline for calculating your weighted progress.
-
Weighted Progress Calculation: Your progress is calculated proportionally based on each Group's contribution to your total requirements:
- Each group's progress is multiplied by its requirement (Courses or Credits).
- This result is divided by the total requirements across all Groups.
- All Group calculations are summed to give your overall progress.
Example Calculation
Let's look at a practical example. For our example imagine a Curriculum with two Groups. In this example, the Learner has completed everything in Group 1, but has not yet completed the requirements of Group 2.
-
Group 1: Complete 3 courses
- Status: 100% complete
-
Group 2: Complete 100 credits
- Status: 0% complete
The calculation to determine the overall progress of the Curriculum based on the example above, is as follows:
- Total Requirements: 3 courses + 100 credits = 103 total units
- Group 1 Contribution: 100% × (3 ÷ 103) = 2.91%
- Group 2 Contribution: 0% × (100 ÷ 103) = 0%
- Overall Progress: 2.91% + 0% = 2.91%
Based on the example above, the overall progress as calculated will be 2.91%.
Why This Method
This weighted calculation ensures that:
- Larger Curriculum Groups (with more Courses or Credits) have proportionally more impact on your overall progress.
- Your progress accurately reflects completion across different types of requirements.
- You get a clear, unified view of your academic progress.
